As we like to say here, “Fishing Cabo San Lucas is either good or great”, but are you wondering just exactly what we’re catching lately? We’ll be sharing what’s biting and what you can expect during this time of year when you go fishing in Cabo San Lucas.
Striped Marlin
Spring is a great time to get bit by Cabo’s year-round mainstay, the striped marlin. Last week we had success right outside of the bay, where we came across a ton of striped marlin with a strong bite. Once we got trolling, the marlin quickly took notice and gave us a strong bite and started fighting hard. Most of our charters released striped marlin, with our Picante Dream releasing six in a day.
Yellowtail
This week we had plenty of good luck with yellowtail on the Sea of Cortez side. Several of our charters got the yellowtail biting, catching three or more throughout the day! Early spring is typically a hot time for yellowtail, and we expect to see more in the coming weeks as they come to Cabo in search of squid. Their aggressive personality, speed, and strength make them a sought after species here in Baja.
Skipjack
At some of our favorite inshore fishing spots, we ran into some nice skipjack. The inshore bite has been consistently good this week, and a large number have shown up with their big appetite. Known for their agility, the skipjack is a fun catch, and most our charters ended up bringing in several.
What’s Biting Next?
We typically expect to see more awesome striped marlin as we head into April, as well as plenty of inshore fishing opportunities. Dorado, skipjack, roosterfish, sierra, and wahoo are likely to be biting in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned as we’ll be covering more of the fishing that can be found here in May, June, and into the summer months.
