In this article we’ll be revealing what fish have been biting the most this past month here in Cabo San Lucas. We’ve had a lot of fun on the water this April. The “Cabo Bite” is strong, each day brings excitement as we head into May. Whether offshore or inshore, there is plenty of action to go around. Our top catches for the past month have been yellowfin tuna, striped marlin, red snapper, and sierra mackerel.
Top Biting Fish
The yellowfin tuna bite has been great through the month. Most days we see multiple bites from yellowfin averaging 22 pounds. Some of the best locations to target yellowfin tuna have been the Golden Gate Bank, La Herradura, 1150 Bank, Gordo Bank, and the San Jaime Bank. Our top angler hooked 20 yellowfin tuna fishing at La Herradura on our Caliente 45.
Striped marlin fishing is excellent, and they have been biting our live bait casts. We’ve been able to sight cast and have success trolling. Our top spots for striped marlin are the Golden Gate Bank and San Jaime Bank. Our top angler released six striped marlin at the San Jaime Bank on our Pride Cabo Express.
We’ve been getting tons of bites from some nice red snapper this month. We have been finding them while out fishing for striped marlin and yellowfin tuna. They are best around the 1150 spot and inshore. Our top angler brought in six red snapper while fishing on our luxury Caliente 45.
The inshore bite is on fire with tons of sierra mackerel schooling up in the Santa Maria Canyon. Our top angler caught 16 sierras while fishing inshore on our Cisco. Other highlights include a 30 pound wahoo, a shark, and a couple large roosterfish.
What’s Biting Next?
As we head into May, we expect to see more of the current bite. We’re forecasting more striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, sierra this spring. Next month we could see increased action from dorado, wahoo, and roosterfish. The fishing has been above average this year, so it’s a great time to get out here and enjoy the Cabo bite!
