Cabo being a tourism hot spot has many resorts and travel agencies offering travelers “all inclusive” getaways. These packages often include a number of meals and drinks within the resort. Winter Fishing in Cabo San Lucas
Top Catches: Striped Marlin, Blue Marlin, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna
Hot Spots: Finger Banks, Golden Gate Bank, The Lighthouse
Winter fishing in Cabo San Lucas is typically very good, and 2019 was no exception! We had a great time on the water, with tons of opportunities to fish Cabo favorites. One spot that impressed us this year was the Finger Banks, a hot spot for striped marlin. A winter day in Cabo can have anglers seeing over a dozen striped marlin! Another amazing winter striped marlin spot was The Lighthouse, where we released double-digits in a day.
Yellowfin Tuna started to show up in January, with some good schools found offshore. Some hot spots for winter yellowfin tuna were Golden Bank, The Lighthouse, and La Herradura, where we hooked several in a day.
If you love Cabo’s awesome dorado fishing, winter is a great time to be here. Dorado are good in the fall as well, and that carries into January where some great catches can be found. Hot spots for winter dorado include The Lighthouse and Golden Bank.
Spring Fishing in Cabo San Lucas
Top Catches: Striped Marlin, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, yellowtail, sierra mackerel, triggerfish, red snapper, wahoo
Hot Spots: Golden Gate, Lighthouse, San Jaime Bank, 1150
Cabo spring fishing was excellent this year, with a strong steady bite from March through May. Offshore fishing was great, with lots of striped marlin and yellowfin tuna to be had. Inshore, there was an impressive amount of great looking sierra. We had a few wahoo and dorado bite, which can be fished year round in Cabo San Lucas, but are more prevalent in other seasons.
This spring the striped marlin could be found in areas such as The Lighthouse and Golden Gate Bank. Some marlin responded to sight casting with live bait, and other times trolling yielded the best results. Spring is traditionally a great time for striped marlin in Cabo, and we think this year holds up with boats getting several bites on average. During May our Salsa released eight striped marlin by the Golden Gate Bank along with a blue marlin and a handful of yellowfin tuna. Spring is a great time for fans of striped marlin to get out on the water and experience the Cabo marlin bite!
The yellowfin tuna bite was impressive this year, with more being hooked as spring progressed. Yellowfin tuna can be caught in spots such as The Golden Gate Bank. A standout from this spring was when our new Caliente 45 boated an incredible 29 yellowfin tuna!
Summer Fishing in Cabo San Lucas
Top Catches: Striped Marlin, Dorado, Blue Marlin, Dorado,
Hot Spots: 1150 Spot, Punta Gorda, Santa Maria
This June was a great success for several boats and Captains with the Picante team. Our boat Salsa and Captain Alex Collins made a splash at the ILTTA tournament, boating 23 striped marlin! Cisco boated 18 striped marlin, and Picante Express and Picante Dream both boated 12 during the tournament.
This summer we saw the dorado picking up during July. The dorado looked great this year, and could be hooked at the 1180 spot and the 1150 spot. We also saw plenty of yellowfin tuna in the mix with dorado, and not too far from shore.
Summer fishing in Cabo San Lucas can often see a large variety of different species during one day on the water. It is not uncommon to have a charter reel in blue marlin, striped marlin, and dorado in the same day! There is plenty of action in the sea during summertime, with a little something for every angler.
Fall Fishing in Cabo San Lucas

Anglers can’t wait to get in on the competition, and there are many tournaments to choose from, so come to Cabo during fall to get in on the action!
In September we had a blast with some great offshore fishing! We experienced some of the best looking striped marlin, blue marlin, and sailfish that we’ve seen for the whole year. Our anglers were able to release several per trip by trolling and using live bait in different hot spots on the Pacific side.
During the fall we also saw some of the best tuna and dorado fishing for the year. We consistently pulled high numbers and saw a trend of larger size from September through November.
