You come to Cabo San Lucas to vacation for a few days, but you want to make the most of your time. You want to get to know the most iconic points of Los Cabos, as well as feel the &ldquoLos Cabos lifestyle&rdquo. We put together our &ldquo5 Best Things To Do In Cabo San Lucas&rdquo as voted by the Picante Sportfishing team. Let us know what you think about them, and if you think we missed your favorite spot or activity.

  1. Enjoy a boat ride through the Cabo San Lucas Bay, within sights of the majestic rock formations at Land&rsquos End. You&rsquoll see the sea lion colony sunbathing or fishing right next to El Arco and Playa del Amor. You can take the ride from the marina, or if you go fishing with us ask the Captain to stop a little in El Arco at sunrise leaving the marina or on your return so you can have the mandatory picture: El Arco behind your happy face, your own Cabo San Lucas postcard.
  2. Relax on the beaches of Cabo San Lucas. Whether you are looking for a place to swim, enjoy the landscape or simply feel the warm sand in your foot, there is plenty of beach to go around. There are 19 Blue Flag certified beaches in Los Cabos! Blue flag? Yes, that is a worldwide designation considered the gold standard for beaches throughout the world, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Our Blue Flag are the perfect place for you to swim, surf, snorkel, paddle-board, kayak, or walk safety and sustainably. Some of our recommended Cabo Blue Flag Beaches include: Acapulquito, Chileno, Corsario, Hacienda, Las Viudas, Palmilla, Santa María, La Ribera and Medano.
  3. Enjoy the ample gastronomy of Los Cabos, exploring the food is one of the main pleasures of travel in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. With so many culinary offerings from award winning restaurants, farm to table cuisine, casual dining, to local little eateries. You can indulge yourself with distinctive Baja flavors.
  4. Play golf with the most amazing and breathtaking views. Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo have 15 world class golf courses in operation including both private and public greens. Enjoy the 103,897 yards and 273 holes waiting to be played at the tip of Baja California Peninsula.
  5. The last but not least (and our favorite): Experience Cabo San Lucas sportfishing with the winners! Cabo San Lucas is known as the &ldquoMarlin Capital of the world&rdquo, the waters are legendary amongst fishermen for having the best billfish grounds.  All year round we have the striped marlin biting, but June through December brings the blue and black marlin beasts. The other offshore species (and good for the table) are wahoo, tuna and dorado (aka mahi mahi). Popular bottom fish include the peculiar roosterfish, grouper, jacks, snapper, triggerfish and cabrilla for a tasty ceviche.

Fall Cabo Fishing Has Arrived!

It’s every fisherman’s favorite time of the year, fall fishing in Cabo!

We’ve been off to a great start this year, and we’re looking forward to a great fall fishing season in 2019. With August showers and plenty of bait in the area, the big billfish that Cabo is famous for have come early!

Last month’s rain and wind brought some nice fish into the Sea of Cortez! We are finding some beautiful dorados and some monster yellowfin tunas, with the tunas around 20-35 miles offshore.

With the weather mixing things up, our most common bite right now is the blue and striped marlin. With a little bit of chop to the water, the sailfish have shown up as well.

The month of September has started off with mostly billfish. The Picante Fleet is catching and releasing blue marlin, striped marlin, and sailfish. Learn more about what’s biting by clicking the link below to visit our detailed fishing report.

The Blue and Black marlin have arrived! What’s on your bucket list? Come join us while the bite is hot!

Salsa, Cisco, Ram Rod, Picante Dream, Caliente 45′, Picante Express, and Expresso are just a few of our boats who closed the summer season with staggering numbers of striped marlin. The Picante Expresso and the Picante Pride each had record days of 9 striped marlins on one charter! Check out our charter fleet page for detailed information on each boat in the Picante Fleet.

The boats are catching their share of dorado too! With the dorados here, it’s no mystery as to why the blues and the blacks have shown up. Anywhere from 10 to 30 pounds on average, these dorados are a blast to catch and great for dinner! It’s not uncommon to end the day with a mix of dorados, tunas and different species of billfish.

If you’re looking for tuna, don’t you worry! Cabo tuna fishing is on fire right now, especially in the Finger Banks. If you don’t mind riding out 25-30 miles, there are plenty of yellowfin tunas around. Book our Finger Bank Fleet who have experience fishing this hot spot, and have the speed to get you there quickly.

We recommend booking an all-day trip to give yourself enough time to reach the fishing grounds where the fish are actively feeding. Click below to book your personalized fishing charter and let us take care of the rest! Our expert staff, from the crew on the boat to the crew in the office, work hard to make sure you have the trip of a lifetime.

Picante’s Commitment to Excellence

At Picante Sportfishing, our policy is to offer the finest sportfishing experience in Cabo San Lucas. That means we pay attention to every detail. One of the details that sets Picante apart from the rest is how we make all of our own meals in house using only the finest and freshest ingredients. You can taste the difference. But don’t just take our word for it, read on for one of our customer reviews and some tasty photos!

“A few weeks ago several colleagues and I had the good fortune of going on a fishing expedition with the talented team from Picante Sportfishing in Cabo San Lucas. Their boats were immaculate and very well equipped with everything that we could possibly need for comfort and an exciting ocean adventure. Our captain knew his way around the open waters and made sure that we did not go home empty-handed.

An unexpected highlight of our trip was the totally delicious lunch that was included in our activity package. Unlike most other companies who purchase meals that are outsourced and then brought in for their clients, Picante has their own culinary team and meals are prepared within their property using what can only be described as very impressive and top quality ingredients. In fact, we may have enjoyed eating our lunch more than we did catching the fish.

Thank you, Picante. You came highly recommended and you did not disappoint.”

October Fishing in Cabo San Lucas

Marlin fishing

As summer turns to fall in Cabo San Lucas, the fishing is heating up. October is the heart of Cabo Marlin fishing season, with Black Marlin and Blue Marlin taking center stage for Cabo anglers. Excitement fills the air as we gear up for fall tournaments this year. Everyone is getting their team together and hoping to reel in their winner from the glittering seas off of Los Cabos. Here&rsquos everything you need to know about October fishing in Cabo San Lucas, Marlin fishing, and tournaments this month.

Black Marlin

Black Marlin fishing in Cabo San Lucas during October is excellent! These big billfish are extremely fond of the waters surrounding Baja, and can be found not far from shore. The Black Marlin can be found in Cabo from May through December, and are always on the hunt for smaller fish that are in abundance here. You&rsquoll be able to get their attention with live bait as well as dead bait because they&rsquore always looking for a convenient meal.

When you get a Black Marlin hooked up, get ready for a fight. You want to keep them as close to the surface as possible from the get-go. If you can keep the Black Marlin on their toes, they&rsquoll put on a show with their aerial jumps. Take early advantage with the Black Marlin, so you can land them quicker and add more to your day of fishing or tournament tally.

Blue Marlin

Blue Marlin fishing in Cabo San Lucas during October is very good and a popular choice for anglers looking for big thrills on the water. Another large member of the billfish family, the Blue Marlin is always on the move. Thankfully, they make Cabo their home for several months from the summer through the fall. Look for them offshore where they enjoy hunting for their choice of squid and smaller fish like tuna and dorado. If you come across a group of smaller fish, there could be a Blue Marlin close by waiting to share in the action.

Cabo Blue Marlin are second in size to the Black Marlin, but don&rsquot think they&rsquore any less of a fighter. The Blue Marlin will go on runs to depths further than a Black Marlin will. They have tons of energy, and you&rsquoll want to let them expend plenty before you try to land a big blue. If you&rsquove got the big one on the line during a tournament, get comfortable with the fighting chair and settle in for the long haul. Blue Marlin in Cabo San Lucas have tipped the scales at nearly a thousand pounds!

October Gamefish (Tuna and Dorado)

Aside from billfish, Cabo fishing in October is great for gamefish like tuna and dorado. We have amazing yellowfin tuna fishing in Cabo from spring through the end of the year as they enjoy the feeding opportunity found here. October is a great time for Dorado as well and may be found offshore near the top where it&rsquos warm and they feed successfully.

Tuna and Dorado are some of the most exciting fish in Cabo San Lucas to target. They have lots of speed and fight, and will put on a show with their aerial leaps when on the line. Tuna and Dorado are in the mix this October tournament season in the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament and the Bisbee&rsquos East Cape Offshore.

Tournament Fishing

October Fishing in Cabo San Lucas would not be complete without some of the most anticipated tournaments of the year. First up this month we have the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament put on by the Los Cabos Tourism Board. It&rsquos five days of fishing and festivities hosted by the Playa Grande Resort. Categories include blue marlin, black marlin, striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, dorado and wahoo and sailfish.

Register by October 13th and meet at the Cabo marina on the morning of October 14th for an exciting week of competition.

An October favorite is the Bisbee&rsquos Los Cabos Offshore which features two days of fishing starting October 17th. The &ldquoLittle Bisbee&rsquos&rdquo is a great introduction to Cabo tournaments with a smaller entry fee and tons of great categories and jackpots. Fish for marlin, sailfish, tuna, and dorado and celebrate with your team at Maria Corona.

Maybe the most talked about October Cabo tournament, the Bisbee&rsquos Black and Blue, begins on October 22nd. This tournament hosts some of the top anglers from around the globe who return each year for their shot at the big jackpots Bisbee&rsquos Black and Blue is known for. This tournament is all about the marlin obviously, so if you&rsquore looking to put your strength and prowess to the test, be sure to get your team together for this great event. Hosted just steps from Picante&rsquos location in the Puerto Paraiso Mall, get registered by October 22nd and gear up for the 8:00 AM shotgun-start the following day. This tournament has lots to offer with great competition and huge rewards in tons of categories.

One of the Best Times of Year

October fishing in Cabo San Lucas is as exciting as it gets, with amazing opportunities for marlin and other gamefish. October is one of the best times here because these species can enjoy feeding and the temperate waters off of Cabo San Lucas. If that weren&rsquot enough, October tournaments are some of the best of the year offering all anglers something to look forward to.

Ready to get your October Cabo San Lucas fishing trip going? Get in touch with us today to have Picante help you plan your fishing trip. We look forward to showing you why October is one of the best times to go fishing in Cabo San Lucas!

Bait: Live mackerel or caballito for marlin with success from trolled lures and live bait for the surface fish, and Dorados hit trolled lures

Hot spot: This week the focus are was the pacific side:  Golde Gate bank, Sam Jaime bank and the 45.

There are two techniques for fishing in Cabo San Lucas, trolling and casting.

a) The Trolling technique is very effective we troll artificial lures and sometimes live bait. When trolling, we put 4 or 5 fishing lines in the water with artificial lures (all sizes and colors) and we go at a speed of 8-9 knots per hour in order for the lures to work right. Trolling requires lots of patience and luck.

b) The Casting technique is applied when the captain sees a fish afloat (Striped Marlin, Sailfish and Swordfish) and gets as close as possible in order to throw live bait to it. This technique is very exciting because you have the opportunity to see the fish go for the live bait and get hooked.

Whether you’re looking to go dorado fishing, marlin fishing, or tuna fishing, Picante Sportfishing has the best charter boats, and captains to make your Cabo fishing trip an unforgettable experience. We invite you to get in touch so we can answer your questions, and help plan your next Cabo deep sea fishing adventure!
